An Interview with "Tips

TIPS

Sticker art, a vibrant form of street art that has gained immense popularity in recent years, often carries the allure of anonymity, allowing artists to speak through their creations without the overshadowing presence of their identity. One such artist who thrives in this world of mystery is the enigmatic "Tips," whose character stickers have been gracing cities across the globe. In an exclusive interview, Tips sheds light on the inspiration behind the character, the significance of collaboration, and the unique canvas of "priority mail" stickers.

1. The Intriguing Character of Tips

Tips' Instagram page is a captivating gallery of stickers featuring an endearing character that appears in various urban settings. When asked about the inspiration behind this character and the intentions behind placing it in different locales, Tips shared, "My character Tips is a cartoon who hopes to capture the attention of passer-bys and hopes to get a second look. He can be found on poles, signs, newspaper boxes, books, and magazines. Tips can be found in North America, South America, Australia, Europe, and Asia. My goal is to have stickers in almost every major city in the world."

With Tips' character being a global traveler, it's evident that the artist aims to make an impact that transcends boundaries and cultures, sparking curiosity and engagement wherever the stickers are discovered.

2. The Significance of Collaborative Art

Collaboration forms a pivotal part of Tips' artistic journey, as evidenced by shared projects with fellow artists on "priority mail" stickers. Tips elaborated on this aspect, saying, "Collaborations with other artists are a great way to grow and meet other people in this community. I've collaborated on priority mail stickers, printed vinyl, canvases, and other media. Most recently in Europe, Tips was a part of a sticker collage on a large public bus."

This spirit of collaboration not only enriches the tapestry of street art but also fosters a sense of camaraderie among artists, encouraging them to explore new horizons and push the boundaries of their creativity.

3. The Allure of "Priority Mail" Stickers

"Priority mail" stickers have become Tips' canvas of choice, offering a unique space for artistic expression. Tips explained, "Priority mail stickers have been used since the early days of sticker art. Priority mail stickers are easy to access and offer artists a nice mini blank canvas that they can showcase their art with."

The humble "priority mail" sticker, originally designed for utilitarian purposes, has transformed into an artistic medium that allows Tips and other artists to share their vision with the world in a distinctive and accessible manner.

4. The Veil of Anonymity

One intriguing aspect of Tips' identity is the cloak of anonymity adopted by the artist. Tips shed light on this choice, stating, "The reason most artists in the sticker community remain anonymous is because they want the focus to be on the art, not the artist. That way, the main focus is on the art."

This anonymity allows Tips to let the artwork speak for itself, ensuring that the viewers' attention is undivided and solely directed toward the creative expression on display.

5. Memorable Moments in the Journey

In the course of Tips' creative journey, the artist has had the privilege of witnessing countless memorable moments and experiences. Tips shared, "My favorite moments are when people come across a Tips sticker in the wild and also when they take photos and share/tag me with it, aka 'spotted'."

These moments of connection between the artist and the audience, though often indirect due to anonymity, create a sense of community and shared appreciation for the artistry of Tips.

In the world of sticker art, Tips stands as a shining example of an artist who uses anonymity as a canvas to amplify the voice of their art. As Tips' stickers continue to enchant urban landscapes across the world, the artist's message remains clear: let the art shine and create connections that transcend names and faces.
